In 2007, Winn-Dixie launched a multifaceted program which has raised more than $1,000,000 since its inception to help increase breast cancer awareness, provide mammograms for economically disadvantaged women, and conduct research. Through this program, Winn-Dixie Stores and the Winn-Dixie Foundation have supported the National Breast Cancer Foundation, The Donna Foundation, The American Cancer Society, and the North Florida affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Additionally, through a partnership with Winn-Dixie’s vendor community and the Winn-Dixie Foundation, an annual contribution of $300,000 has been made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation through purchases of participating products made by customers during the month of October.
In 2008, Winn-Dixie contributed over $100,000 to the American Cancer Society through its Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program.
That same year, Winn-Dixie also announced its $100,000 premier sponsorship of The Donna Foundation’s National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer. This race is the only breast cancer marathon in the country that is dedicated exclusively to raising funds for breast cancer research and care. Over 60 members of the Winn-Dixie Corporate Running Team participated in this race in 2008 to raise awareness and show support for the cause.
In 2009, Winn-Dixie committed to a $200,000 sponsorship with the North Florida affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. It was the largest single contribution the local affiliate has ever received! The donation represents Winn-Dixie becoming the presenting sponsor of all Komen North Florida events in the 2009-2010 season, including Laugh for the Cure, Mary Lakes Invitational Bowling Tournament, Race for the Cure, Row for the Cure, and Art for the Cure.
